Baby Cakes® is a dwarf, thornless blackberry perfect for patio pots with its compact habit. In summer, large, classic and sweet tasting berries present on the plant in a fireworks-like spray of fruit. In most regions, this blackberry will produce twice in one season! Pick a sunny place to plant. All berry plants need at least 6 hours of full sun to produce berries. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about ½–1 inches below the soil surface. Do not add fertilizer when planting. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and then water thoroughly. Fertilizing your Bushel and Berry® plants is not necessary for them to grow and produce tasty berries, but it will help your plant thrive. For blackberries, a balanced liquid fertilizer in early and late spring is ideal. Pick a fertilizer that contains Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium with the same numbers and closely follow the product label instructions. Tip: If your plants starts to yellow in the summer, a bit of balanced liquid fertilizer will help perk it up in addition to lots of water.
